Domestic Violence Workshop to be held Tuesday, March 11, 2014 @ 9 a.m.     
Arkansas School for the Deaf Tornado Shelter  
Little Rock, Arkansas

The Arkansas Independent Living Council and the Arkansas Coalition against Domestic Violence invite you to attend a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault workshop on Tuesday, March 11 at the Arkansas School for the Deaf Tornado Shelter Building on the campus of the school.  The event will begin at 9 am and adjourn around 12 noon.
 Dynamics of Domestic Violence Overview: In this workshop we will discuss the history and philosophy of advocating for victims and survivors of domestic violence, the power and control wheel, equality wheel, and the effects of domestic violence on children. We will also clarify any myths, discuss why people batter and why victims stay, stages of victims leaving, the lethality assessment and the cycle of violence.
We are strongly encouraging individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing to attend this worthwhile workshop. Providers of services, professionals or family members are encouraged to attend as well.  Class attendance is “Free” but limited to forty (40).
The Presenter
Rebecca Bennett is the Education Coordinator for the Arkansas Coalition against Domestic Violence and she holds a bachelor degree in Social work and a Master degree in Organizational Management with an emphasis in leadership. Rebecca is fully bilingual (English/Spanish), and is certified as a law enforcement instructor by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training, specializing in and for domestic violence. She is trained as an Expert Witness from the Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault and has also received Trauma training from the National Center on Domestic Violence, Trauma & Mental Health as well as financial empowerment and financial literacy for survivors from the Allstate Foundation in conjunction with the NNEDV (National Network to End Domestic Violence). Rebecca is a member of the Advisory Board for Crime Victims with Disabilities, and the Crime Victims Academy Committee.
